RPC Newsletter 2012-2 April

Welcome to Richmond Photo Club.

Founded in 1980. Our club comprises a wide variety of beginners, intermediate and advanced photographers who shoot in digital and film format using many different techniques.

We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 P.M. in the Painting Studio, second floor of the Richmond Community Centre at the corner of Granville Avenue and Minoru in Richmond, BC. We break for the summer, and do not meet during July and August.

Richmond Photo Club has a great cross section of members ranging from casual photographers to experienced shooters, who can help you by offering their expertise and experience. You can share ideas about various techniques, practice your photography on a field trip or in a classroom setting and perhaps teach others what you already know from your own personal experience. We give you the opportunity to compare your work with other photographers within the club and outside. You can also  learn from the techniques that our members have used to improve their skills. We all have one common purpose... to enjoy photography!

Here is what you will experience at the club:

Evaluations – the club hosts about ten evaluation sessions in meetings during the year. We bring in experienced CAPA* Certified judges who are members of other CAPA clubs in the lower mainland to offer constructive comments on your photography, as well as scoring the work based on the category you are in. The club also competes in outside events such as the North Shore Challenge, the Delta Print Challenge and the CAPA Pacific Zone Print Challenge.

Exhibitions – We present a large showing of our members' work annually in the Richmond Lansdowne Centre. This great event presents a chance to work with fellow members in the preparation of the exhibition as well as to interact with the community and to show case your work.  We also exhibit our member’s photography in the Atrium of the Richmond Arts Centre annually. This is an excellent opportunity to show our skills to the Arts community as well as the hundreds of visitors to the Arts Centre.

Field Trips – We arrange these events within our club to local areas of interest. Members can also take part in monthly CAPA sponsored trips organized by the CAPA Pacific Zone.

And much, much more – on meeting nights in addition to evaluations, we offer talented and informative guest speakers, conduct image critiques and arrange educational workshops and talks.

Richmond Photo Club is a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art.

Visitors are always welcome to our club meetings and we invite you to come along and meet new people, maybe to learn something new, and to decide if Richmond Photo Club is for you.

There is a yearly club membership fee of $60 and with membership you will also have full member access to this Meetup group.  To access all features of this website you need to come to a Richmond Photo Club meeting, join the club, and pay your dues there in person. We do not collect dues on line or on the website.

"Thanks, Katherine. It's the right time of year to shoot song birds that are here. The ducks are nesting and having babies so watch out for young ones."
