Mr. Bergen is an excellent educator. His presentation is very well-organized and he is especially good with beginner levels, introducing each feature in details. It certainly takes a lot of myths out of layering and PhotoShop.

I thought it was really easy to just convert from colour into black and white. It turned out that it is a lot more difficult to convey the same story in black and white and different shades of grey. The speaker was really good because not only did he come up with very constructive criticisms for the photographs, he also told us exactly how to improve the image, which area to improve, and which software function to use. I find that really helpful because I know that I am not using 100% of the software but I just have not spent the time in learning it. The lack of manuals now makes it even more difficult to learn on one's own because now it is necessary to discover the features.

Larry's comments and his range of score (all 6 to 8) would suggest there were no "stand outs" in the images we presented. To help improve our B&W image making, why not make a personal commitment to submitting at least one of your images as a B&W at each future evaluation session. Set you camera to B&W next time you go on a shoot.

This was a very informative evaluator, all his comments were useful. Tough on marks but we don't really care, do we? boo hoo.

It was a very educational evening because Mr. Griffiths answered a lot of questions that we did not even have to ask. The unbiased comparison and analysis of various software complete with samples were helpful.

Interesting if you wanted to work in Silverefex, otherwise just a good slide show.

It was for the birds.... the field trip at Reifel Sanctuary, that is! The weather stayed fine and the lighting was good for photography. Bill, Gerry and me showed up (unless the rest of you were hiding).... Then again, the Sandhill Cranes were hiding too. What didn't we get????

The judge was articulate with his opinion of each image, but at least we had a image to look at as he was articulating and not just words. I enjoyed his humour at the end of the judging when he was showing his images.

I learned a lot about what goes into HDR photography from Francois, which is what I expect from an education evening. From this I can decide whether HDR is something that appeals to me. I agree with Neil in terms of the content of the presentation; I too would have prefered seeing more of his images. This was not a workshop; so anyone who learns better that way should look into signing up for a pratical course. I left the session understanding that this is about taking an HDR scene or subject and creating a lower dynamic range (LDR) image that we can visualize or print. So the images that are produced are LDRIs, not HDRIs.....!

There were some gems in the last 20 minutes of the presentation. The first hour could have been condensed into ten minutes leaving 50 minutes to add more gems.....and illustrative slides

The instructor new his stuff. We are photographers (artists), the power point presentation was 10 years outdated, extremely boring. It amuses me how some artists will present a power point presentation without any creative input to make it current and interesting, insert graphics and photo's there is no excuse for not doing this if you are a true artists. If you are a techno person then boring text is ok, and then watch the cell phones come out to entertain and get your mind away from the dullness of watching paint dry as in a power point presentation without creative input. 50 minutes of text and talking with just three images shown, I did not want to be rude but enough is enough so I escaped from the room with my sanity in tack.

It was a great presentation because it is good to know the judges' criteria when looking at photographs, especially for CAPA competitions.

A group of 8 members succesfully completed the Lansdowne framing for nearly 100 images in under 3 hours. Great team work made this a breeze and allowed time for a leisurely lunch at the local Golden Arches bistro (see BDP's photos). Well done all!

Beautiful morning light, a skiff of snow on the ground and no cold breeze made for a pleasent sojourn around Steveston fish docks, Britannia Haritage shipyards and Garry Pt. park. Only 3 members had signed up for this field trip and it turned out to be a solo effort for me as my two colleagues didn't make it. You missed a pleasent outing.
